Become a Notary in California: A California Notary Public is commissioned by the Secretary of State for a 4-year term. An application fee is required
California Requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must be a legal resident of California.
- You must complete a notary class approved by the Secretary of State.
- You must complete and pass a written test prescribed by the Secretary of State.
- You must provide a fingerprints and pass a background check by FBI and California Department of Justice.
- You must purchase and file an official bond.
- After commissioning, you must obtain a notary embosser seal, stamp or electronic seal, and maintain a notary journal.
