Become a Notary in Colorado: A Colorado Notary Public is commissioned by the Secretary of State for a 4-year term.
Colorado Requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must be a legal resident of Colorado.
- You must be able to read and write English.
- You must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving dishonesty, as defined in C.R.S. 12-55-102(1.4), during the last five years.
- You must not have had a felony conviction in your lifetime.
- You must not have had a notary commission revoked.
- You must carefully read the Notaries Public Act (Title 12, Article 55, Colorado Revised Statutes, Parts I and II. You should also visit our website.
- You must complete a notary class approved by the Secretary of State.
- You must provide a copy of certificate with a passing grade on the State online exam.
- After being commissioned, you must obtain an official seal and maintain a notary journal.
