Become a Notary in Illinois: A Illinois Notary Public is commissioned by the Secretary of State for a 4-year term. An application fee is required.

Illinois Requirements:

  • You must be a citizen of the United States or a legal alien admitted for permanent residence.
  • You must be a resident of Illinois for at least 30 days.
  • You must be able to read and write English.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must not have been convicted of a felony.
  • You must not have had your notary commission revoked during the past 10 years.
  • You must obtain a $5,000 notary bond to submit with your application.
